My Art!
Graphic Design is a cross between the 2-D art world and advanced technology. This art form allows you to heighten your artwork, as well as make it something you couldn't have with just a pen, pencil, and paper. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop have opened up so many things you can do to create your artwork. To create my work, I like to jump right into it, creating my designs as I go. I always have some sort of idea before I start, but I just like to click around and see what I can initially create. I definitely was excited to take this class, as I had never done anything like this before. Graphic Design has helped me become more computer savvy, while still trying to be creative and conscious of how a real Graphic Designer works. By far, Graphic design has been my favorite art class.
Gray PhaseFor this project we were asked to create a logo for the company 'Grey Phase', a space travel airline. We were asked to make the logo look retro, while still incorporating futuristic details. For my design I decided to create an retro ribbon logo, with retro colors and text. My futuristic details were the phases of the moon, that also hinted at the name of the company. One challenge I faced was picking the right color, which I later changed but forgot to turn in. Everyone suggested that maybe a darker blue would hint towards space travel rather than a teal color. My favorite part of this design is the moon phases up at the top and bottom of the logo.

Book Cover RedesignFor this project we had to redesign the cover of a book that we have read. For my book I chose 'Looking for Alaska' by John Green. My design incorporates a daisy and a famous quote from one of the characters, Alaska. One of the petals is a cigarette because Alaska smokes. One of the hardest parts of this design was creating the smoke of the cigarette. I had never done anything like that, and I had to look up how to make it. In the end I am really satisfied with how this turned out.

T-Shirt Designhad For this project we were asked to create a t-shirt design for which we had full control over what we would like to do. For my design I made a visual pun, 'Beets Me'. This project was very hard for me because I had a hard time figuring out what my design should be since I didn't have any guidelines to follow. Also, I had to use the Wacom tablet to draw the beet. This was a new experience for me since I had never used that before. One thing I could have improved was the look of the beet. Many people mistook it for a radish, and I could have made it look more like a beet. I honestly really like this shirt because it shows my stupid sense of humor.

Barren MagazineFor this project, we were asked to make a magazine cover with our original masthead and image. For my masthead I created a new font, by cutting of certain sections of the letters and replacing the A with a geometric triangle. To tie together both the cover and the inside of the magazine, I added the triangles to the bottom of the pages. This was my most successful design, especially my cover. I really like the masthead because of how modern and clean it looks. One thing I could fix is the resolution of the masthead to add to how clean the cover looks.

Product PackagingFor this project, we were asked to make packaging that cohesively went together for three variations of the same product. For my product I chose tea bags. Each box is specifically designed for the type of tea that is in the box (ie. Green, Black, Jasmine). For the green tea, I went for a simple/minimalistic style. For the black tea, I went for a yin-yang theme. And for the Jasmine I went for a pastel, light theme. Each box has the same basic design concept, but each one is a little different depending on what tea is inside the box. The hardest part of this project was time management. Since I was absent so often, I had to hurry to figure out an idea. My favorite part about this project is the Green tea box. It is pleasant to look at and looks very clean. It was also the easiest to make.
