Artist Statement
My name is Emmalee and I am an art student at Falcon High School. I am taking these classes because I feel that art is a way to express yourself in different ways other than words and to show your thoughts physically. The art I am interested in are sketches, special affects makeup, realistic looking art, photography, Photoshop, and art that has meaning behind it. The things that motivate me in life are my family, music, and the future. When I create art the things that inspire me are my past experiences, the world around me, and my future.
When I am creating art, the materials I like to use are makeup, pastel, graphite, paint, and paper. When I use these materials, the subject matters I base my art on are usually about nature, my experiences, my feelings, and my interests. The process I use when I create my artwork is drawing out a rough sketch of my ideas, then I ask others I the like the idea and how they think I could improve it, then I create a list in my mind of what materials I would need to create the piece, then finally I start creating. The biggest challenges I face when I create art are messing up and wanting to restart, restarting way too often, and wanting my project to be perfect.
When people look at my artwork, I would want them to feel what I was feeling when I was in the process of making that piece. The goals that I have for myself as I continue to make art are to try and work with my mistakes rather than work against them. I would also like to become better at new techniques that I have learned so far.

Fiery Coils
This project was when we were supposed to create a piece of art using two of the techniques we learned about making art with clay. What i like about this piece is the flow of yellow that is oozing out of the cracks of the coils, looking like fire. Through out making this piece, I grew by learning how to work better with clay, and how to glaze properly. |
Plum Orange Pot |
In this project was to experiment with the different techniques we had learned to make art with clay. What I like about this piece of art is the way colors of orange peek through the purple. Through out making this piece I learned that I needed to improve on my glazing skills, and paint the glaze thicker.

Get away
For this project, we had to create a mask that had meaning to us. What I like about this project is the palm trees holding up the hammock. Through out this piece I learned that I needed to improve on my color mixing skills so I can create the proper colors I need. This project's meaning was to show that my room is a sort of get away, just like the beach is to some people.

In this project, we had to create a portrait bust. What I like about this project is how it actually looks like a person and the color of the glaze. Through out this piece I learned that I need to be better with time management. The meaning behind this project was, that you should be able to look more clearly with your mind and think more clearly with your heart.

Oil Spill of 2010
For this project, we had to create a piece that represented a time in history that made a big impact on the world. What I like about this project is the bird that is flying out of the oil that it was once stuck in and the oil drum that looks like it is spilling the oil. While making this piece I learned that I need to be careful while handling hot glue and I need to use stronger glue while attaching metal to cardboard.

Leaning Tower of Blues
For this project, we had to make a sculpture out of rolled up newspaper that was the average height between our group of two. What I like about this project is, when you look closely, you can see many shades of blue fading into darker and lighter versions. While making this piece I leaned that making bigger pieces made the structure more sturdy and we needed to have more support on the bottom.
