Artist Statement
Photography is such an amazing form of art. It ranges from home pictures that capture precious moments, to professional, high end photos that are featured in magazines and online. This range of photography is why I like it so much. It allows every person to be able to capture something with meaning to them. Whether it be with a phone or an expensive camera. No one is either limited or constrained on what they can take pictures of to express their creativity. When I take photos, I constantly have ideas coming to me, but sometimes I like to plan and brainstorm before I actually physically pick up a camera. Before I took this class I was very inexperienced with my photos, including composition and meaning. Now whenever I take a photo I always have composition rules and ideas for behind the actual photo. Now my photos are evidently better. Some of my photos have a larger meaning, such as my black and white photo series, and others are just to capture a moment that I had been living.
Name Project

Light PaintingFor these photos, we had to create paintings with light, this was possible by setting the shutter speed for longer and the aperture lower. The ghost photo on the right was done the same way, accept I added a timer to the photo, so that I could be in my own photo. I also had to move away after a certain period of time, so that my body appeared to be fading away. For my ghost photo, I was inspired by DadLabs on YouTube. This project helped me to become more comfortable and familiar with manual camera settings.

For this project we had to take photos using large and small depth of field. To do this, I had to change the f stops to higher and lower in order to accomplish this affect. We viewed many photographers to be inspired for this project. For this I learned how to get more accustomed with the camera settings.

Forced Perspective
For this series, I had to create Illusions with photos. In the left, the girl has a tree growing out of her mouth. and on the right, the girl is standing on the box. For this I had to use large and small depth of field and we used models for the first time. I was inspired by many photographers, and the illusions that they have created. I learned how to use models and how to get creative with what I had.

Abstract Color Series
For this series, we had to abstract photos that fit within a color we chose. My color was grey. I was inspired by many photographers for my series, and I used a lot of composition rules. For this series, I learned what abstract meant and how to accomplish these, such as fill the frame and rule of thirds. This series helped me to think outside of the box and become more creative.

Portrait Series
This photo series' meaning is body image and how many people can go to extreme lengths just to reach or have a perfect body. I used many composition rules such as avoid the middle and diagonals. I was inspired by many different portrait photographers, especially those who had black and white photos. This series helped me to think of meaning before actually capturing a picture, I also had to work with models, which was kind of hard. These are probably some of my more successful pictures.

Selective Color Photo |
This photo we experimented with selective color. Originally, the lips were a darker pink, but by adding a layer, selecting it, and changing that color, I was able to create a softer pink lip. This picture was originally a part of my portrait series, but I used it for a selective color photo. This photo helped me to learn more about photoshop, and how to do cool things with it.

Research Project Series |
For this series we went to Glenn Erie and had to be inspired by a famous photographer. I was inspired by Charlie Waite, because his photos had good compositions and bright colors. I tried to replicate these, by saturating the photos in photoshop and leaving a large space within my photos. This series helped me to learn how to replicate or take inspiration from others while not exactly copying them.
